Paper Daisy Events host creative things all over Sussex. The aim of the events is to “showcase the creative and unique small businesses throughout Sussex in an exciting and fun way, which the whole family can enjoy” – how lovely is that!
I spotted the banner for their Makers Market at the Brighthelm Centre & Gardens and decided I would pop along. They took over the inside and out to host a Christmas craft market, with over 30 local artists and makers. Inside was the gifts and handmade bits, and outside was a street food market!
We started off with food – obvs. We decided to try Flux – an entirely vegan menu with lots of super tasty options. I went for a toastie – sourdough french toast with tofu bacon, melty cheese, homemade mayo & Dijon mustard.
Damn. It was an epic toastie to be honest. The tofu bacon was sooo full of flavour and it had quite a sweet taste to it, which went really nicely with the cheese and mustard. I’ve tried some baaaad vegan cheese but Flux‘s is melty, delicious and full of flavour. The perfect fuel for an afternoon of strolling around the market!
The market inside was sooo lovely. Packed full of local people, chatty shoppers and vibrant stalls. It had a really good atmosphere. I bought a few super lovely bits so I am really glad we went! First up, I bought a print from Roh Noh. Run by Rosie, an illustrator, designer and toymaker who is based in Brighton. Her work is ADORABLE – think lots of pastel colours, animals and cute slogans. As soon as I spotted her Mrs Nesbitt print, I knew I HAD to buy it!!! It’s so cute, I’m actually obsessed. I will definitely be buying more of her prints in the future.
Next up, I bought a beautiful candle from Moxi. Moxi sells art, gifts and candles in Brighton. I’m a biiiiig candle fan so I was immediately enticed by their stand. After sniffing literally every candle, I decided on the scent called Low Tide.
Their website tells me it’s “inspired by a large glass of gin on Brighton beach” – amazing. It has hints of salty sea air, seaweed, fruity juniper berry, lemon and pear. It smells DIVINE and is hand-poured using eco soy wax, so it’s 100% vegan. The illustration on the jar is beautiful and it looks amazing on my shelf.
The last thing we bought was an extremely cute seagull Christmas tree decoration. Can you get more Brighton?!?! The stand was called Lauren’s Art and was packed with prints and art that had a Brighton theme.
We went for an angel seagull because what else do you want at the top of your Christmas tree?! In the future, I really want to get one of Lauren’s Brighton themed prints to put up at home.
As well as all the stalls, there was a pop-up cafe inside serving homemade cakes and hot drinks – with 10% of hot drink sales going to The Chestnut Tree House. Overall, I thought the Makers Market was a super lovely way to spend an afternoon. I loved seeing all the incredible creative people selling their stuff and it was really busy with a good atmosphere. The perfect place to pick up a present or just something lovely for yourself.
